CRITICAL INCIDENT RESPONSE COURSE FOR SUPERVISORS AND MANAGERS

This 4 day / 32 hour course is designed to help the Field Supervisor prepare for and manage
major tactical events. This course is particularly designed for Senior Officers, Sergeants,
Lieutenants, and Watch Commanders. This course will also be of critical interest to:
Dispatchers, Fire Command Officers, Civilian Managers and Public Officials. This class is POST
Plan III Certified and is reimbursable to the agency for tuition, travel, lodging, per diem,
etc. - tuition is $253 per student.



THE COURSE
Our goal is to prepare the Field Supervisor to be an effective leader at a Critical Incident.
This course is designed to provide a comprehensive review of the current field tactical
doctrine, with an emphasis on the use of a four-step Critical Incident Response Plan that will
be developed in class. The student will be exposed to case studies and will participate in
tabletop classroom exercises.

THE INSTRUCTOR
The Instructor is Lt. John Kane (ret) of the Sacramento Police Department. Lt. Kane is a 30-year
law enforcement veteran who has commanded over 50 Critical Incidents. He holds a Masters Degree
in Criminal Justice, and is on the faculty at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
where he teaches Law Enforcement Response to Disasters and Critical Incidents.
In 2002 Lt. Kane received the POST Governor's Award for Law Enforcement Training Excellence for
his work in Critical Incident and Disaster Response Training. This course continues to be one of
the highest rated POST Classes by the students who have attended it.
